This year’s event proved to be an outstanding success with the women who attended indicating that they: had thoroughly enjoyed the day, met new members, were reminded on how to score using a card, and appreciated the delicious offerings at the Halfway Hut.
As everyone moved through the modified course, they were able to meet their new committee members who each ‘hosted a hole’ and provided a fun, golfing challenge. There was the ‘Give a toss’ hole where you could throw the ball for your second shot if you hadn’t reached the green; the Monopoly Hole where the roll of the dice indicated which ‘property marker’ you were to tee-off from; The Jokers Wild hole that, with the draw of a card, indicated which club you were to use for the entire hole, including putting; nearest the pin on the second shot on the 7th; ‘Take your pick’ of 2 holes to putt into on the 18A; ‘Beat the Tic Toc’ by completing the hole in 3 ½ minutes; and so on!
There was a variety of prizes awarded on the day and ‘goodies’ given out throughout the course.
One of the main aims of the day was to acknowledge and farewell committee members such as Cathy Leong, Sue Bament and Sarah Hyde. We thanked these wonderful women for their time and contributions whilst representing the women’s membership on the Women’s Committee.
Sue-Ellen Sipek, Chris Heusler and Sue Economou were also welcomed as new additions to the committee.
Wendy Northey was also given special acknowledgement and thanks for her service as Chair of the Women’s Committee. Due to the recent adoption of the new Constitution, this position has been phased out. Wendy, however, will continue to stay on the committee.
The success of the day was a wonderful team effort from all of the committee; Ray and the Pro Shop staff; Barry and Grounds team; James, Martha and the food and hospitality team; Shel and particularly, Chanel. I very much appreciated Chanel’s assistance and outstanding design skills to produce the hole banners, the score cards and vouchers and to capture photographic memories of the day.
The Committee look forward to next year’s event and, as one member commented, ‘definitely a must do event on the golf calendar!’
